Question:
ACLU affiliates across the country have reported problems and complaints about local law enforcement agencies with 287(g) agreements engaging in profiling and harassing Latino communities. Some of the most serious complaints regard abuses by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in Arizona, which has one of the largest 287(g) programs in the country. These massive abuses have been fueled by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's federal authority under the program and the absence of ICE monitoring. In July 2008, the ACLU filed a class action lawsuit, Ortega v. Arpaio, against Arpaio and his department challenging the illegal racial profiling of Latinos in Maricopa County.
Answers:Nothing is perfect.
Not particularly. However, it sounds as if the program is far from perfect.
No way!!!!! We need to strictly enforce the laws!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bastard/2009/08/end_287g_program_urges_letter.phpThe Feds have had 23 years to fix the problem. Instead they have made it worse by constantly offering legislation to give them more benefits. When they get serious about the situation then leave immigration enforcement up to them, until them it's any law enforcement agent who is willing to take it on.It is ironic that the ACLU filed suit in the county where the most Federal Immigration Law Breakers are concentrated. Imagine that, finding criminals where criminals are and the ACLU cannot stand it.This is total bull. they do not want anyone rounding up and finding out who is illegal and that is all their is to it. I never understood how it is racial profiling in many cases if it is a hispanic or latino neighborhood. these people are getting away with so many crimes because of this whining racial profiling. It is past the ridiculous stage.
